Title: Wireless Temperature Sensing Yarn Based on UHF RFID Helix Dipole Hybrid Antenna and its Preliminary Application
Abstract:
As one of the most basic information of human life activity, temperature can be used to monitor body temperature, respiration and other vital signs information. The integration of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology with flexible textile sensing technology will offer a good solution to the wire connection and the cumbersome battery involving electrical circuits of the common textile-based flexible temperature sensors. Existing radio frequency identification (RFID) temperature sensors in the wearable field involve issues such as poor comfort level, high costs, low flexibility and concealment. There is an urgent need to develop a wireless temperature sensor with yarn-like soft structure, low cost and good reading performance as well as high temperature sensitivity. In this work, an ultra-high frequency (UHF) RFID temperature sensing yarn was designed by the principle of impedance mismatch between antenna and RFID chip as well as an integration of miniature thermistor into antenna, and then the prototype was prepared by industrialized equipment and evaluated on its sensing performance. The receive signal strength indication (RSSI) of the developed sensing yarn with right helix structure exponentially varied with temperature in a wide range, and it showed excellent capability in wireless sensing temperature. Finally, its potential application in intelligent health management was tested by the respiration monitoring embedded into a biomedical mask.
